Carl has lived and performed in the USA, Europe and Australia.
He has worked as sideman for the likes of Terumasa Hino, Bobby Previte,
James Morrison, Mose Allison, Bobby Shew, Andy Bey, Dale Barlow, Mike Nock
and Vince Jones.
Carl leads his own group the Carl Dewhurst Quartet. The group has released
two CD's : "Put Put Put" and "CDQ Live". Since forming in 1998 the Carl
Dewhurst Quartet has maintained a high profile, performing at the Sydney
Opera House, the Big Day Out, The Basement, Side-On Cafe and at the
Wangaratta Jazz Festival.
He has recently released an album of improvised duets with drummer Simon
Barker entilted "Showa 44".
Carl is a member of the Australian Art Orchestra with whom he toured Europe
in 2000.
He also has recorded and performs with Cameron Undy (20th Century Dog &
Numerology), Phil Slater(Strobe Coma Virgo), Scott Tinkler (Drub), Susan Gai
Dowling, Bernie Mc Gann, Phil Treloar, Lily Dior, Jackie Orzaczsky and EON
to name a few.
He won both the judges and peoples choice awards at the Ike Issacs
International Jazz Guitar competition in 1998 and was runner-up at the
National Jazz Awards in 2000.
Carl gained his Masters Degree in Music in 2001 and has been a guest
lecturer at several univerities.
He has made numerous TV and radio appearances and was featured in Rolling
Stone magazine in February 2003.
